Personal branding has never been more important than it is today. Not sure you believe that? Just open your favorite social media app and scroll through the myriad posts. You’re bombarded with images and messages from people who are trying to sell us something. To stand out from the noise, you need to have a strong personal brand.

Creating a personal brand takes time and effort, but the reward is immense – as in, the sky is literally the limit. With a little bit of effort, patience, and time, you can establish and grow your personal brand. Here are 5 tips to get you started:

1. Who are you, and what do you stand for?

If you want to create a brand and then monetize it, your first question is what makes you tick. What is your “why”? Who do you want to help (target) and who will that audience be? In what way do you plan to help them? The top niches are money, fitness, and relationships, not necessarily in that order. If you have a strong “why” statement in any of those niches, that is an excellent place to start.

2. Establish and/or grow a strong social media presence

The fastest and least expensive way to reach your audience, once you’ve figured out who that is, is by establishing a strong presence on social media. Pick 2 social media platforms, create an account, and then be active on them. Post once a day if you can, or at least 3 times per week. Read comments that people make on your posts and respond to them. Get to know your audience and let them get to know, like, and trust you. To attract followers, share relevant, useful, helpful information. Mix it up with information, humor, personal stories, and even trivia from your niche. Grab my free 30-day Content Calendar If someone comments, reply promptly and professionally. This lets your audience know you’re engaged and listening.

3. Showcase your skills

Your audience needs to know, like, and trust you before they’re going to buy anything from you. Put yourself in their place – would you give your credit card information to someone you just met? Be patient, provide quality content, and let your audience get to know you. Share photos of yourself doing the work that you do. Share stories about who you are, what your background is, and how you got to where you are. Create compelling headlines - your titles should grab the reader's attention and make them want to read your content. Studies show that up to 80% of people will only read headlines and never go past that. So, make sure your titles are both catchy and relevant.

4. Connect with other influencers

Tapping into the influence of other influencers can provide a great boost to your personal brand. Reaching out to other influencers in your field will also help to open new doors. Collaborating with other influencers can go a long way in helping you grow your personal brand. It is a great way to tap into newly available networks and access a wider audience. Working with other influencers also brings credibility to your brand and amplifies your reach. It’s a great way to get your content shared and generate additional buzz for your brand. Identify key influencers in your field: Research and identify influencers in your field that have an established track record of connecting with their followers and delivering quality content. Reach out to the influencers with whom you want to collaborate and start connecting with them. Share their content on your platform and with your network. 5. Stay consistent

This is SO SO SO important. If you want to grow your personal brand as quickly and easily as possible, it is important to remain consistent. Staying consistent will help you stand out in the crowd and grow your presence. Decide on a goal and create a plan around it. This will help you focus your efforts on achieving the same goal consistently. Post regularly and consistently, making sure you schedule your content for specific days so that you stay on top of your strategy. Keep posting content that is engaging, relevant and valuable to your followers on a regular basis. Keep a clear goal and staying laser-focused on it will help you stay consistent and reach your objectives much more quickly.
